SEO For The Beginner PDF Print E-mail

Search engine optimization has been around for a long time and with good reason. For any website on the internet the one defining factor for success is the amount of traffic it receives. And search engines can deliver a great deal of traffic. This is why there are many forums and blogs devoted to the practice with thousands of website owners participating.

There are many ways of optimizing a website or blog to gain high rankings in a search engine. The first and most important would have to be on-page optimization, ensuring keywords you want to rank for are both in the body text of your page and the title. Do not fill your page with your keyword over and over again thinking you will rank better. This is called keyword stuffing and will do nothing but get you banned by the search engines, and blasted by readers.

Off-page optimization is another important part of search engine optimization. Off-page optimization is mainly gaining links that point to your websites from other websites. This can be done by one of three ways. Either you contribute to a website or forum and you get a back link to your website. You swap links with another website which means you also have to link back to them, or you write quality content and people naturally link back to you. I would recommend getting natural links as they more often than not hold the most weight with the search engines.

With effective off-page and on-page optimization techniques you can ensure you get plenty of traffic from search engines. Just don't forget your target audience is not a search engine but real people. Don't compromise your website quality in order to please the search engines.
